How many articles were there on Wikipedia in the first week when it was launched?

Jimmy Wales

There were zero articles on Wikipedia when it was launched.

No one knows what the first article was, because in the early days the deletion of articles was done at the command line, and so if something was deleted there would be no trace of it at all.  Many articles, including the front page, were deleted in that fashion.

We do know what the first words in Wikipedia were, though, because I wrote them myself: “Hello, world!”
